S.C. State Fire Marshal John Reich advises Halloween enthusiasts to be fire safe during the trick-or-treat festivities by paying attention to a few precautions:
Carry a flashlight and wear reflective clothing.
Purchase close-fitting costumes made from flame retardant materials.
Avoid billowing or long trailing costumes.
Use extreme caution with open flames. Candles should not be close to flammable materials. Consider using flashlights instead of candles in jack-o-lanterns, torchlights and other lighting decorations.
