Interim Director Richele Taylor

Richele Taylor was appointed as the interim director of the South Carolina Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation by Governor Nikki Haley on December 8, 2014. Taylor is awaiting Senate confirmation.

At the time of her appointment, Taylor was serving as LLR’s Deputy Director of Administration, a position she had held since March of 2014. In that role, she oversaw the Human Resources, Procurement and Financial Offices.

Taylor came to LLR from Fisher & Phillips LLP, where she represented employers and management exclusively on employment and labor issues. She provided advice to clients on employment policies and procedures aimed at improving employee relations and reducing risk. She represented clients in state and federal courts, as well as agency proceedings.

Taylor graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She received her law degree from the University of South Carolina School of Law, where she served on the Dean’s List and was a Staff Editor and Associate Articles Editor for The South Carolina Law Review. She was named as a Greater Columbia Business Monthly’s Legal Elite in 2013, and a 2012 South Carolina Super Lawyers–Rising Star.  She is also a Riley Institute Diversity Fellow from the Spring 2014 Midlands Class VII.

In addition, Taylor authored God Bless the Kick-off: School Prayer in the Wake of Santa Fe v. Doe, published by the South Carolina Law Review, Volume 53, Fall 2001. She also co-authored Making Your Company Part of the Solution: Legal Compliance with Child and Forced Labor Laws, North American Regional Forum Newsletter of the International Bar Association, and Disqualifying Employees from Unemployment Compensation Benefits for Failing Drug Test: South Carolina Now Requires Special Proof, South Carolina Lawyer’s Weekly.

Taylor is a member of the South Carolina Bar Association, Richland County Bar Association, Employment & Labor Section of the State Bar, and South Carolina Women Lawyers Association.
