Troubleshooting: Renewal Portal Login

If you have not accessed your e-service account in a while, you may need to reset/recover your password. Go to the "I Forgot My Password" web link at https://eservice.llr.sc.gov/SSO/Login/RecoverPass/, and a link to reset your password will be emailed to the email on file. A current email address must be on file to be able to reset your password.

To update email address, email the Board at Contact.funeral@llr.sc.gov and include the following:

  • Name on License
  • License number
  • Last five of social security number (not required for establishment licenses)
  • Current email address
Online Renewal Kickout

Accidently answered a question resulting in a kick out: Renewal kick-outs are cleared out each morning. If it is an emergency, request for clearing of kick out can be emailed to contact.funeral@llr.sc.gov. Email confirmation will be sent once the renewal can be accessed.

Funeral Director and/or Embalmer Renewal

Funeral Director and/or Embalmer licenses expire June 30 th of even numbered years. Renewal notifications will be sent out the beginning of April. The current license cycle is July 1, 2024 to June 30, 2026.

Fees

Funeral Director or Embalmer renewal fee: $300

Dual Funeral Director and Embalmer renewal fee: $320

Late Renewal (Postmarked on or before July 31 st of renewal year): $120 late fee plus renewal fee.

After August 1 of the renewal year, the license is expired and must be reinstated. Continued practice is a violation of Board law and regulations.

Crematory Operator Registration Renewal

Crematory Operator registrations expire June 30th of even numbered years. Renewal notifications will be sent out the beginning of April. The current license cycle is July 1, 2024 to June 30, 2026.

Fees

Registration renewal: $50

Late Renewal (Postmarked on or before July 31st of renewal year): $120 late fee plus renewal fee.

After August 1 of the renewal year, the registration is expired and must be reinstated. Continued practice is a violation of Board law and regulations.

Funeral Establishment License Renewal

Funeral Establishment licenses expire June 30th of even numbered years. Renewal notifications will be sent out the beginning of April. The current license cycle is July 1, 2024 to June 30, 2026. Establishments are subject to biennial re-inspections.

Fees

Funeral Establishment (Parent, Branch, Crematory, Retail Outlet) renewal fee: $350

Late Renewal (Postmarked on or before July 31st of renewal year): $120 late fee plus renewal fee.

After August 1 of the renewal year, the license is expired and must be reinstated. Continued practice is a violation of Board law and regulations.

Continuing Education
  • Funeral Directors, Embalmers and Dual licensees will need four (4) hours annually of Board approved continuing education. A total of eight (8) hours is needed each renewal cycle which runs from July 1 of even years to June 30 of even years.
    • One (1) of the four (4) hours must be an ethics in funeral service course.
    • No more than two (2) hours may be pre-recorded distance education learning.
      Online synchronous education (virtual classes or conferences taking place in real time in which the instructor/speaker and attendees can interact) are considered live, physical attendance and not subject to the two-hour restriction.
Reporting Continuing Education

Do not submit any CE documentation to the Board’s office. Licensee are required to utilize CE Broker and must upload all required CEs prior to renewing a license.

Reinstatement
  • Funeral Director, Embalmer and Dual licenses that is not renewed by June 30 of the renewal year, will be lapsed on August 1 of the renewal year. Lapsed licenses not reinstated within five (5) years are cancelled. Cancelled licenses must reapply for licensure and meet all current requirements for licensure.

    To reinstate a lapsed license, licensee must submit a reinstatement application, fee and proof of completed continuing education. Reinstatement Fee: renewal fee + $120 per year license was expired

  • Funeral Establishment license that is not renewed by June 30 of the renewal year, will be lapsed on August 1 of the renewal year.  To reinstate a lapsed license, a reinstatement application and fee and pass an inspection prior to reinstated license being issued.

Renewal FAQs
Q. What should I expect after I submit my renewal online?

A. When renewing online, board staff will receive your online renewal the next day (or Monday if entered on Friday). The new pocket card or wall certificate will be printed and mailed. However, you can log in from online services and print a copy of your license if you need it prior to receiving the hardcopy by mail.

Q. What should I expect after I mail in a paper renewal form?

A. Once the paper renewal is received, the information will be verified and the renewal will be processed. The new pocket card or wall certificate will be printed and mailed, please allow 15 days for your new pocket cards to be received in the mail before calling board staff.

Q. What should I do if I have a disciplinary action against my license or any other license I hold (in this state or any other state)?

A. You must report disciplinary actions on your renewal. If the action has NOT already been reported and/or reviewed by board staff, you must answer “yes” to this question on the renewal and you will not be able to renew online. You will have to supply the information with a paper renewal form to include a check or money order for the renewal fee.

Q. What do I need to do if I want to place my license on inactive status?

A. The board does not have inactive or retired status license. The license must be renewed to remain active.

Q. Can I renew if I have not quite completed my CE since I have already registered for the classes?

A. NO, you must complete all CE before renewing in an active status. You cannot practice until your license is back on active status.

Q. Will an audit be conducted on my license?

A.YES, we are now conducting a compliance audit on all licensees after renewals. CE Broker will assist in this audit. That is why it is very important to assure all your continuing education is reported to CE Broker. If you see a course that is not reported to CE Broker, contact your course provider first.

Q. Who do I contact if I have problems or questions with my renewal or I don’t receive my new pocket cards?
