Revised Protocol for Administration of Vaccines by Pharmacists
The South Carolina Board of Medical Examiners has approved revisions to the SC Protocol for Administration of Vaccines by Pharmacists, effective September 17, 2025. These revisions follow recommendations made by the Joint Pharmacist Administered Vaccines Committee on September 15, 2025.
While several updates were made to the Protocol, the primary change authorizes pharmacists, pharmacy interns and eligible pharmacy technicians to administer FDA-approved COVID-19 vaccines without a licensed practitioner’s order in accordance with recommendations from:
- the Advisory Committee on Immunizations Practices (ACIP),
- the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP),
- the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP), OR
- the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG).
