Revised Protocol for Administration of Vaccines by Pharmacists
The South Carolina Board of Medical Examiners has approved revisions to the SC Protocol for Administration of Vaccines by Pharmacists, effective May 4, 2026. These revisions follow recommendations made by the Joint Pharmacist Administered Vaccines Committee on March 4, 2026.
Several updates were made to the Protocol. A summary of major revisions include:
- Removal of vaccine-specific appendices from the protocol
- Update of Appendix B. Required Supplies and Equipment:
- removal of requirement to keep pediatric supplies unless pediatric patients are immunized
- removal of requirement to keep a scale for weighing pediatric patients
- removal of hydroxyzine tablets
- removal of specific needle size
- updated language to allow for a cell phone to be used for time keeping and flashlight
