CODE OF ETHICS FOR LONG TERM HEALTH CARE ADMINISTRATORS
The purpose of the Code of Ethics for Long Term Health Care Administrators is to serve as a guide for personal conduct in the practice of the profession. The South Carolina Board of Long Term Health Care Administrators recognizes the responsibility of the Administrator in the care of the residents of nursing homes and community residential care facilities. In order to promote the highest quality of performance in the practice of LTHC Administration, the Board has developed the following fundamental principles for the guidance of the profession.
PRINCIPLE 1
The Administrator, in all professional relationships, practices with compassion and respect for the dignity of the individual, with primary commitment to the resident.
PRINCIPLE 2
The Administrator practices administration in a manner consistent with laws and standards of practice pertaining to nursing homes and community residential care facilities
PRINCIPLE 3
The Administrator strives to provide a safe and healthy environment and to protect the rights of the residents.
PRINCIPLE 4
The Administrator strives to promote and enhance the profession and its standards by increasing awareness and understanding of health care and of the profession.
PRINCIPLE 5
The Administrator is responsible for maintaining his or her professional competence and to continue professional development and growth through continuing education.
PRINCIPLE 6
The Administrator strives to protect the confidentiality of information regarding residents consistent with law and professional standards.
PRINCIPLE 7
The Administrator does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, sex, religion, age, national origin, handicap, marital status or any other factor forbidden by law unless related to legitimate and legal requirements of quality care.
