South Carolina Board of Long Term Health Care Administrators

To become an AIR Preceptor, applicants must:

• Be currently licensed in S.C. as a Nursing Home Administrator, Community Residential Care Facility Administrator or Dual Licensed Administrator base upon the AIR program the preceptor plans to supervise.
  • NHA Preceptors must be licensed three (3) years preceding application date.
  • CRCFA Preceptors must be licensed two (2) years preceding application date.
  • DUAL Preceptors must meet both the NHA and CRCFA Preceptor experience requirements.
• Have no disciplinary sanctions against the license, regardless of the state
• Be employed as the Administrator of Record in a facility licensed under the Department of Public Health

Following submission of the Preceptor Application to the Board office and successful completion of the NAB preceptor modules, the AIR Preceptor permit will be issued. The applicants regular administrator license must be maintained in order to hold an AIR Preceptor Permit. Failure to renew the regular administrator license or putting the regular license on inactive status license will result in a cancelling of the AIR Preceptor Permit.

Step 2: After completion of all required documents, visit the Online Portal to begin application process. Upload all completed/notarized required documents in the online application portal. *Please note: Payment must be submitted at the end of the online application in order to be submitted.*

Preceptors may request ten (10) hours of continuing education credit per completed AIR program in which they served as the supervising preceptor. The continuing education hours are the same for each completed AIR program regardless of program length. Preceptor cannot obtain more than ten (10) hours of continuing education credit per biennial renewal cycle, regardless of the number of programs they supervise.

AIR Preceptor Permits expire annually on June 30^th. Renewal notifications will be sent out at the beginning of April.

If a Permit is not renewed (postmarked on or before June 30^th), the license is lapsed and continued practice is a violation of Board law and may be subject to Board discipline.

AIR's may not receive credit for program time during which the AIR Preceptor permit is lapsed.

Licensees with a lapsed AIR Preceptor license must reapply and may be subject to retaking the NAB modules at the Board's discretion.

AIR Preceptors may use the Licensee Portal to complete the following:

• Update Contact Information: email, mailing address, etc.
• Print a copy of your License
• Request a License Verification record
• Access Document Submission to submit additional forms or documents - Submission Instructions

There are no fees associated with the initial application or renewal of the AIR Preceptor permit.
