Residential Specialty Contractor Registration Application
- Please allow 7-10 business days before checking your application status online at Online Applications, then click on Application Status.
- Applicants should keep a copy of any application and attachments filed with this office.
- Choose up to 3 classifications that are listed on the application.
- Affidavit must show 1 year of experience for each classification chosen (up to 3). The Affidavit required for the Specialty License can be found at: Affidavit.
- Incomplete applications will not be processed.
FEES
- The registration fee is due at the time you submit your application to our office.
APPLICATION QUESTIONS
- Applicants are required to answer all the questions either Yes or No.
- If you answer “Yes” to any question(s) pertaining to a conviction, you must remit an official Statewide Background Check from the state where the incident occurred in a sealed envelope from the state agency along with your written explanation. The report must be pulled using your full name, date of birth and social security number.
- If any question is left unanswered, the applicant will be sent a deficiency letter.
WORK EXPERIENCE AFFIDAVIT
- An applicant must submit a Work Experience Affidavit that supports one (1) year of residential work experience within the past five (5) years for each requested trade classification or notarized letters of reference as set forth below. The Affidavit must provide appropriate contact information for individuals with direct knowledge of the experience described and dates must be included. The description of experience section should contain detailed descriptions of work performed by the individual applicant (not their company) that is related to the trade classification(s) being applied for. The affidavit should be signed by the applicant and properly notarized.
- In lieu of submitting the Work Experience Affidavit, an applicant may submit notarized letters of reference from licensed builders, contractors, customers, owners, employers, etc. Notarized letters of reference must describe in detail the work you performed in each trade classification you are applying for. Dates must be included in the correspondence to add up to the total of at least one year of residential work experience within the past 5 years for each requested trade classification. Reference letters cannot be a generic form letter. Notarized letters of reference must include the name, address, and phone number of the person signing the letter.
APPLICATION REVIEW PROCESS
- Applications submitted must be correct in order to complete the process.
- The processing steps are as follows:
- Applications meeting all requirements and payment of fees are received.
- Applications are reviewed for accuracy and completeness.
- Applications that are incomplete and/or have credit discrepancies will be sent a deficiency letter.
- If work to be performed is $5,000 and over, you must submit a surety bond (original bond signed with the power of attorney in your legal name in the amount ($5,000). This link will take you to the Bond Form: Bond Form.
Residential Specialty Registrations renew June 30 every odd year (2025, 2027, 2029, etc)
